Facilitators and design team

Involve and the Democratic Society are jointly responsible for ensuring that Scotland's Climate Assembly is a high quality citizens’ assembly. Both organisations will work on the assembly’s design, focussing on areas such as the assembly’s structure, timings and accessibility. They are also responsible for recruiting and leading the facilitation team for the Assembly.


Involve is the UK’s leading public participation charity with offices in Edinburgh,  Belfast and London. They work towards creating a more vibrant democracy, with people at the heart of decision-making. Involve's mission is to develop, deliver and campaign for new ways of involving people in the decisions that affect their lives. Since the organisation was founded in 2003, they have worked with governments, parliaments, civil society organisations, academics and the public across the UK and internationally to put people at the heart of decision-making. 


Kaela Scott

Kaela Scott is Involve's Head of Democratic Innovation, a role focused on developing the theory and practice of public engagement and new forms of democratic participation. Based in Edinburgh she has responsibility for developing and delivering programmes and activities designed to inform best practice in public engagement across Scotland. She has over 10 years’ experiences as a deliberative workshop designer and facilitator researcher and trainer stretching across a wide range of policy and practice areas.

Democratic Society

Democratic Society has been working to support democracy since 2010 and has been involved in the development of participatory and deliberative projects in Scotland since 2014. We have worked on over 150 projects with thousands of people in 24 countries. At the heart of our work is the ambition to create a connected democracy that brings people together in ways which enable them to have a meaningful role in making and shaping the decisions that impact their lives and communities.

Kelly McBride

Kelly McBride

Kelly is the Director of the Democratic Society in Scotland. Based in Edinburgh, she leads on work related to open government and deliberative democracy across the organisation. She has over a decade’s experience designing and facilitating participatory and deliberative events and processes, bringing a background in community engagement.
